The OnePlus 16 is official in China, and it arrives with some of the biggest numbers ever seen on a phone: a 9,000mAh battery, a 200MP main camera and a screen that can run at up to 185Hz in selected games. It is also much more expensive than last year’s model. This guide breaks down the specs, the China prices, the sale date and the big question many readers are asking: will it launch outside China, and can you buy one in Nigeria?

Quick answer: The new flagship launched in China in mid-October 2026 from CNY 5,999 (12GB + 256GB) up to CNY 8,499 (16GB + 1TB). Open sales in China start on 31 October. OnePlus has not announced an official launch for Europe, the US or Nigeria.

Performance: the new Snapdragon chip
The phone is among the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process. In simple terms, a smaller process usually means more speed and better efficiency at the same time.
Gamers get the most obvious benefit. The screen can reach 185Hz, but only in selected games that support it. In everyday use, the panel moves between 1Hz and 165Hz to save power. Some apps, such as the camera, do not run at the top refresh rate.
Battery and charging
The 9,000mAh battery is the headline feature. Last year’s OnePlus 15 already lasted well with a 7,300mAh cell, so this new capacity should comfortably last more than a day for most people, and possibly two days for light users.
Charging is fast too. The phone supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. However, reviewers note that it does not have built-in magnets for Qi2, so you need a magnetic case for snap-on chargers.
If you worry that fast charging harms battery health, read our guide on whether fast charging is bad for your battery. In short, modern phones manage heat and charge speed carefully.
One caution: international versions of some big-battery phones have shipped with smaller cells because of shipping rules. If a global model appears, check the battery size on the official spec page before you buy.
Cameras: a 200MP main sensor
OnePlus has moved to a 200MP main camera with an f/1.6 lens and a large 1/1.4-inch sensor. A high-resolution sensor lets the phone combine pixels for cleaner low-light shots, or crop in for extra detail in good light.
It is joined by a 50MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide. The selfie camera is also 50MP. On paper, that is a very complete camera system. Real-world quality will depend on processing, so wait for full reviews if photos are your main priority. Meanwhile, our phone photography tips will help you get more from any camera.
China price and sale date
In China, the phone starts at CNY 5,999 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The top version, with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, costs CNY 8,499. Open sales start on 31 October 2026.
That starting price is 50% higher than the OnePlus 15’s launch price of CNY 3,999 in China. Rising memory and chip costs have pushed many 2026 flagships higher, but this is still a big jump for a brand once known as a “flagship killer”.
Will it launch globally?
This is the biggest unknown. OnePlus has not announced an official global launch. Tech Advisor reports that Oppo, OnePlus’s parent company, has said OnePlus is exiting Western markets, and that a global model may exist but would not be sold through official channels in the UK, US or Europe. Other reports suggest the regular model may not reach India either.
So for now, most buyers outside China will need to import the phone. Keep an eye on OnePlus’s official channels for any change.
Can you buy it in Nigeria?
There is no official Nigerian launch at the moment. If you plan to import one, think carefully about these points:
- Software: Chinese units run ColorOS and may not include Google Play services by default. Setting them up can take extra steps.
- Network bands: Check that the phone supports the 4G and 5G bands your network uses. Our guide to 5G phones in Nigeria explains the n78 band.
- Warranty: Imported phones usually have no local warranty.
- Fake units: Popular imports attract copies. Learn how to check if a phone is original before paying a seller.
- Total cost: Add shipping, customs and exchange rate to the China price.
Is it worth waiting for?
If you want the longest battery life and you are happy to import, it looks like one of the strongest phones of 2026. On the other hand, if you need easy warranty support, Google services out of the box and local availability, a phone sold officially in your country may be the smarter choice. You can also compare it with last year’s OnePlus 15R, which is easier to find.

Final thoughts
This new flagship pushes battery, camera and display specs to new highs, but it also costs far more than its predecessor and may never launch officially outside China.
