Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro (2026): Specs, Prices and What’s New

Microsoft has refreshed its Surface line with the Surface Laptop 8 series and an updated Surface Pro. Four models were updated in May 2026: the Surface Pro 13-inch and the Surface Laptop in 13-inch, 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes. Here is what changed, what each model costs and which one makes sense for you.

Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro: key facts

  • Processors: Intel Core Ultra Series 3 at launch; Snapdragon X2 versions expected later in the year
  • Biggest upgrades: the 13.8-inch and 15-inch Surface Laptop
  • Starting price (flagship models): $1,949 with Intel Core Ultra 5 and 16GB RAM
  • Surface Laptop 13-inch: $1,499, with a cheaper 8GB version planned at $1,299

Surface Laptop 8 (13.8-inch and 15-inch): what’s new

New display options, including a privacy screen

The larger Surface Laptops get new display choices, including a privacy-screen option that narrows viewing angles so people beside you can’t easily read your screen, a feature Samsung also uses on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The 15-inch model moves to a higher resolution, though it remains an LCD panel. OLED versions are expected to follow in the coming months.

Haptic trackpad

Both larger models get a new trackpad that supports Windows 11’s haptic feedback. You feel a light tap when you snap a window into place or align objects, which makes the touchpad feel more precise and more like a premium MacBook trackpad.

Surface Laptop 13-inch

The mid-range 13-inch Surface Laptop also moves to the new Intel chips and can now be ordered with an anti-reflective display, which helps in bright offices and outdoors. That configuration costs $1,499. Microsoft also plans a lower-cost $1,299 version with 8GB of RAM; it will not support Copilot+ PC features, which need more memory.

Surface Pro 13-inch

The Surface Pro gets a more modest refresh: the new Intel Core Ultra chips inside, without the haptic trackpad changes. If you already own a recent Surface Pro, the upgrade is mainly about processor performance and efficiency.

Prices and availability

Model Starting price Notable
Surface Laptop 13.8-inch / 15-inch From $1,949 New displays, privacy screen option, haptic trackpad
Surface Pro 13-inch From $1,949 New Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips
Surface Laptop 13-inch $1,499 (anti-reflective display) $1,299 8GB version planned (no Copilot+)

Microsoft blames higher component costs for the price increases. The first models announced are aimed at business customers; consumer versions are expected later, alongside the OLED options.

Which Surface should you buy?

  • For office work and travel: the Surface Laptop 13.8-inch balances screen size and portability, and the haptic trackpad is a real upgrade.
  • For a bigger screen: the 15-inch model suits spreadsheets, coding and multitasking; consider waiting for the OLED version if image quality matters.
  • For a tablet-style device: the Surface Pro remains the choice if you want a detachable keyboard and pen input.
  • On a budget: the 13-inch Surface Laptop, especially the coming 8GB model, if you don’t need Copilot+ AI features.
