It is rated IP68 for water up to 6 metres and IP69 against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. Colours are Lattice Green, Lattice Pink, Zero White and Obsidian Black.

Display

The 6.75-inch OLED display has a resolution of 2832 x 1280 pixels. Its LTPO panel adjusts from 1Hz to 120Hz, with 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for comfortable viewing and a 300Hz touch sampling rate. It shows 1.07 billion colours across the P3 gamut.

Performance and software

The Kirin 9030 chip powers the Mate 90, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage. There is no memory card slot. It runs HarmonyOS 7.0 without Google services, so you install apps through Huawei AppGallery.

Cameras

The 50MP main camera has a variable aperture from F1.4 to F4.0, optical stabilisation and an RYYB sensor. The 40MP ultrawide uses RYYB too. The 50MP telephoto offers 4x optical zoom at about 88mm with stabilisation, plus 8x optical-quality zoom and 100x digital zoom. A Red Maple colour camera improves colour accuracy. Video records in 4K. The front has a 13MP ultrawide camera with autofocus and a 3D depth camera.

Battery and charging

The 6,600mAh battery charges at 66W wired and 50W wireless. It supports 5W reverse wired charging and reverse wireless charging for accessories.

Connectivity

The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NearLink E2.0 and NFC, plus two nano-SIM cards and eSIM. BeiDou satellite messaging works in mainland China. The USB-C port supports USB 3.1 Gen 1, and there is no headphone jack.

Tips for new owners

Check that your key apps are available on HarmonyOS before you switch. Use a 66W Huawei charger for the fastest wired charging. Try the 4x telephoto for portraits. Turn on 3D face recognition for secure unlocking. Keep HarmonyOS updated for new features and security fixes.

What to check before you buy

Before buying, confirm that banking and work apps run on HarmonyOS 7.0. Since this is a China model, check language support, network bands and warranty. Choose storage carefully, because there is no memory card slot.

How it compares

Compared with the this phone Pro, the standard model uses the Kirin 9030 instead of the 9035, a single-layer OLED instead of dual-layer, 12GB RAM only and 66W instead of 100W wired charging. It keeps the same battery, camera layout and water resistance, so it is the better-value choice.
