Design and build
This is a small flagship. It measures 151.8mm tall, 72mm wide and about 8.5mm thick. Xiaomi offers two back finishes. The fibreglass versions in Black, White and Ice Peach Pink weigh 203g, while the glass versions in Galaxy Blue and a Transparent edition weigh 208g. The front uses Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0. The most unusual feature is the AI rear screen next to the cameras, which shows widgets, notifications and a selfie preview.
Display
The main screen is a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel with a 2436 x 1120 resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi quotes up to 4,000 nits peak brightness and a minimum of 1 nit for comfortable night reading. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDR Vivid. A built-in privacy screen can hide content from people beside you. On the back, a 2.7-inch AMOLED screen at 912 x 596 lets you frame selfies with the main cameras.
Performance and software
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, built on TSMC’s 2nm process. Its fourth-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU reaches up to 5GHz, alongside an Adreno GPU and the Qualcomm AI Engine. You can choose 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 4. In everyday use, that means fast apps, smooth gaming and quick on-device AI features.
Cameras
The Leica camera system is the headline. The 200MP main camera uses a large 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.67 aperture and optical stabilisation. Next to it is a 200MP periscope telephoto with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, 3.2x optical zoom and 12cm telephoto macro. A 50MP ultrawide covers a 102° view and focuses as close as 5cm. Video reaches 8K at 30fps and 4K at up to 120fps. The front camera is 50MP and records 4K at 60fps.
Battery and charging
Despite its small size, the 18 Pro carries a 7,000mAh battery, with a rated minimum of 6,860mAh. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It can also charge other devices with 27W reverse wired charging and reverse wireless charging. Xiaomi includes a charger in the box in China.
Connectivity
Connectivity is complete for a flagship. You get dual Nano-SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an infrared remote and USB 3.2 Gen 1. Navigation supports BeiDou, GPS L1 and L5, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS and NavIC. Unlocking uses a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, and stereo speakers are Hi-Res Audio certified with Dolby Atmos.
Tips for new owners
Set up the rear screen first, because it is the feature you will use most for selfies with the 200MP main camera. Try the 3.2x telephoto for portraits and the 12cm macro for close-ups. Turn on the privacy screen when you use banking apps in public. Use a 100W Xiaomi charger to get the fastest charging speeds. Finally, keep HyperOS updated for camera and battery improvements.
What to check before you buy
This phone is currently sold in China. A China unit may not include Google services by default, and its 5G bands may not match every network abroad. If you live in Nigeria or elsewhere, wait for an official global version or buy from a trusted importer that offers a warranty. Also choose your storage carefully, because there is no memory card slot.
How it compares
Compared with its bigger Pro Max sibling, this phone is smaller and lighter, with a 6.4-inch screen instead of 6.9 inches and a 7,000mAh battery instead of 8,500mAh. The Pro Max also gets the faster Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and triple speakers. Against last year’s Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the 18 Pro adds a rear screen and a 200MP telephoto.
