Design and build

At just 6.9mm thick, the nova 15 Pro is very slim for a phone with a 6500mAh battery. It measures 163 x 78mm and weighs 202g. The frame and back are aluminium alloy. It is rated IP65 against dust and low-pressure water jets. Colours are Black, White, Purple and Green. The 256GB version uses aluminosilicate glass, while a Kunlun Glass edition offers tougher protection.

Display

The 6.84-inch LTPO OLED screen has a resolution of 1320 x 2856 pixels, about 460 pixels per inch. The refresh rate adjusts up to 120Hz, and peak brightness reaches 4000 nits. It supports HDR Vivid and uses 2160Hz PWM dimming to reduce flicker.

Performance and software

The Kirin 9010S is Huawei’s own chip. It handles everyday apps, photography and most games smoothly. Every version has 12GB of RAM, with 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no memory card slot. The phone runs HarmonyOS 6.0, Huawei’s own operating system. Note that HarmonyOS does not include Google services, so some apps may need alternatives.

Cameras

The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical stabilisation. A 12MP telephoto adds 3x optical zoom, also stabilised. A 13MP ultrawide covers wide scenes. Laser autofocus and a colour spectrum sensor improve focus and colour accuracy. The 50MP ultrawide selfie camera with autofocus is excellent for group selfies and video calls. Both front and rear cameras record 4K video.

Battery and charging

The 6500mAh battery offers long battery life. Charging is very fast at 100W wired, and the phone supports several fast-charging standards, including PD, PPS and QC. That means many third-party chargers can charge it quickly too. There is 5W reverse wired charging for accessories.

Connectivity

The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 with L2HC high-definition audio and NFC. An optical in-display fingerprint sensor handles unlocking. There are stereo speakers but no headphone jack.

Tips for new owners

Before relying on the phone daily, check that the apps you need work on HarmonyOS, since Google services are not included. Use Huawei’s AppGallery for most apps. Take advantage of the 50MP selfie camera for group photos. Use the original 100W charger for the fastest top-ups. Keep the software updated, and use a case to protect the thin aluminium body.

What to check before you buy

Before buying, confirm that the apps you use daily, such as banking and work apps, run on HarmonyOS 6.0. Check whether the unit is a China version, which may lack some languages or services. Make sure 5G bands match your network. Choose between the 256GB and 512GB versions carefully, as there is no memory card slot. Buy from a trusted seller with a warranty.

How it compares

Compared with the Oppo Reno15 Pro Max, the nova 15 Pro is slimmer and charges faster, with a strong 50MP selfie camera. The Oppo offers a 200MP main camera, wireless charging, better water resistance and Google services. Choose Huawei for design and charging speed, and Oppo for wider app support.
