The Redmi 17C 5G is Xiaomi’s new budget 5G phone, launched in India in October 2026. It is built for people who want a big screen and long battery life at a low price: a 6.9-inch 120Hz display and a 6000mAh battery with 33W charging (and the charger is included in the box).

It runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 with 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a microSD slot for up to 1TB more. The 50MP main camera handles everyday photos, and there is an 8MP selfie camera. Design and build

The Redmi 17C 5G measures 171.56 x 79.47 x 7.99 mm and weighs 211 g. It has an IP64 rating, so it can handle splashes and dust. There are three colours: Dark Night, Coffee Brew and Purple Dawn. A side fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock keep it secure.

Display

The 6.9-inch screen has a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. It refreshes at up to 120Hz, which makes scrolling smooth. Typical brightness is 660 nits, rising to 810 nits in high brightness mode. The resolution is basic, but the large size is great for videos and social media.

Performance and software

The Redmi 17C 5G runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, built on a 6nm process. Its CPU reaches up to 2.4GHz and uses a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. You can choose 4GB or 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. A microSD card slot adds up to 1TB more space. That is useful on a budget phone. For more tips, see how to free up storage on Android. The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3.

Cameras

The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Xiaomi pairs it with an auxiliary lens. The camera app includes HDR, night mode and portrait mode. Video records at 1080p and 30fps. The front camera is 8MP and also records 1080p video. These cameras are fine for social media and video calls.

Battery and charging

Battery life is a highlight. The Redmi 17C 5G has a 6000mAh battery with 33W wired charging. Xiaomi includes a 33W charger in the box, which many brands no longer do. It can also charge other devices at 10W by cable.

Connectivity

The phone supports 5G on bands n1, n3, n5, n8, n28, n40 and n78. The n78 band is the main 5G band used in Nigeria. Read our guide to 5G phones in Nigeria for more details. You also get dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, a 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio. There is no NFC.

How it compares

The Redmi 17C 5G stands out in the budget class for three reasons. First, the 6.9-inch screen runs at 120Hz, which many cheap phones still lack. Second, the 6000mAh battery comes with a 33W charger in the box. Third, the microSD slot supports cards up to 1TB. The trade-offs are a low 720p resolution, no NFC and only 1080p video. If you need a better camera or faster performance, you will need to spend more. For calls, social media, school work and streaming, it covers the basics well.

Price and availability

In India, the Redmi 17C 5G starts at ₹20,999. Xiaomi has not announced a Nigerian price yet. When it arrives, buy from trusted shops and learn how to check if a phone is original.
