Design and build

Compact phones are rare, and this one is genuinely small. It measures 150.8 x 71.8 x 8mm and weighs 191g, so it fits easily in one hand and in small pockets. It uses a glass front and back with an aluminium alloy frame. It is rated IP68 and IP69. Colours are Black, Purple and White.

Display

The 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED screen has a sharp 1216 x 2640 resolution, about 461 pixels per inch. The LTPO panel adjusts its refresh rate up to 120Hz to save power. HDR is supported, making videos look vivid.

Performance and software

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a flagship-class 3nm chip with CPU cores running at up to 3.8GHz and an Adreno 840 GPU. It handles demanding games, video editing and multitasking with ease. You can choose 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, with no memory card slot. The phone runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16.

Cameras

The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and optical stabilisation. A 50MP periscope telephoto offers 3x optical zoom with stabilisation, which is rare in a compact phone and great for portraits. An ultrawide camera completes the setup. A ring-shaped LED flash helps in dark scenes. Video reaches 4K. The 50MP front camera with autofocus records 4K too, which suits vloggers.

Battery and charging

A 6500mAh battery in such a small phone is remarkable. Most users will easily get through a full day. Charging runs at 90W wired and 40W wireless, and reverse wired charging is supported.

Connectivity

The phone supports 5G, including n77 and n78. It also has Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless and LHDC 5, and NFC. An ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor provides fast, secure unlocking. There are stereo speakers but no headphone jack.

Tips for new owners

After setup, enable the high-quality Bluetooth codecs if you use premium wireless earphones. Try the 3x periscope camera for portraits, as it gives natural-looking results. Use the 90W charger for fast top-ups, and a Qi wireless pad for convenient overnight charging. Choose a slim case to keep the compact feel. Keep OriginOS updated for new features and security fixes.

What to check before you buy

Before buying, check whether the unit is a China version, because software and Google services may differ. Confirm that 5G bands match your network. Choose 512GB if you shoot lots of 4K video, since there is no memory card slot. Test the cameras and fingerprint sensor. Buy from a trusted seller who offers a warranty.

How it compares

Compared with larger flagships such as the vivo iQOO 15, the S50 Pro mini trades screen size for comfort, while keeping a fast chip, a 3x periscope camera and wireless charging. If you dislike big phones but still want flagship features, this is one of the best options available.
